Lamorne Morris is bringing his comedic talents to fans of Mike’s Hard Lemonade with the Mike’s Jobstacle Course campaign. Morris first found his breakout role on Fox’s beloved sitcom New Girl as Winston Bishop, childhood friend to Jake Johnson’s Nick and one of the roommates of the loft. Winston was best known for his offbeat personality, often failing to successfully pull pranks on his friends, while also being the cat person of the loft and struggling to find the right career path for himself.

Following New Girl‘s success, Morris quickly saw a rise in stardom on both the big and small screens. Between supporting roles in Barbershop: The Next Cut to the Adam Sandler-led Sandy Wexler, the actor also found himself landing some leading roles in the hit ensemble comedy Game Night and Netflix’s Desperados, which reunited him with his New Girl co-star Nasim Pedrad. Morris also led the well-received Hulu comedy Woke, as well as holding recurring appearance in Call Me Kat and co-starring in Vin Diesel’s Bloodshot and leading the comedic thriller Death of a Telemarketer.

New Girl Season 8: Will A Revival Happen? Cast Comments & Everything We Know

New Girl ended with its seventh season back in 2018 but is there any chance Fox will revive the sitcom for an eighth season? Here’s what we know.

Most recently, Morris found widespread acclaim for his turn as Trooper Witt Farr in Fargo season 5, the well-meaning North Dakota state trooper who becomes embroiled in the chaos surrounding Juno Temple’s Dot. For his performance, Morris is currently up for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series. His success hasn’t stopped there, either, as he’s already completed filming on the Saturday Night Live biopic Saturday Night, in which he plays Garrett Morris, as well as joining the Unstable season 2 cast and starring in the Nicolas Cage-led Spider-Noir.

Morris has now lined up to be the face of Mike’s Hard Lemonade’s Mike’s Jobstacle Course, a pop-up event inviting participants to try out seemingly easy jobs and learning of the comical difficulties that come with each. In honor of this event, Screen Rant interviewed Morris to discuss the fun campaign and which job he’s looking forward to trying himself, as well as his Emmy nomination for Fargo season 5, his hopes for both Game Night 2 and a Jumanji 3 return, and his excitement to be part of Spider-Noir.

Mike’s Jobstacle Course “Just Made Sense” To Morris After He “Came Up With So Many Weird Jobs

Lamorne Morris as librarian, weatherman and taste tester in Mike's Hard Lemonade campaign

Before becoming a breakout star in Hollywood, Morris built a unique resume of odd jobs, including bussing tables at Friday’s and stocking shelves at Hollywood Video, among others. As such, when he was approached with the opportunity to lead the Mike’s Hard Lemonade campaign, he found it “just made sense“, as it not only aligned with his history of holding different jobs, but also its overall message of inviting people to enjoy a drink that “makes you feel like you’re on vacation“:

Lamorne Morris: Well, it just made sense for me. A lot of times, you get the opportunity to partner with someone, and it doesn’t necessarily align with what you do. Sometimes, it doesn’t have to, it depends on what it is. But in moments like this, where I am speaking about it, and there is an event that we have coming up, it makes sense — and it’s probably best — if you’re aligned with whatever messaging that is. And I came up with so many weird jobs, some harder than others, some really stupid. [Laughs] And I’m still working now, in a different medium. But, as an actor, you’re working on different jobs, and I find myself after a hard day, probably like most folks, you want a drink.

And I always say if you get an opportunity to have one drink, it’s got to be something that makes you feel like you’re on vacation, because you got to get back to work the next day. Mike’s Hard feels like that. It’s very sweet, it’s desirable, it’s one of those weird drinks that you’re kind of like, “Oh, this just tastes great.” It doesn’t feel like a harsh, burning drink, if that makes sense, you want to actually relax. So, when they brought this up, I thought, “Oh, that’s cool, that makes sense. People work hard, they should reward themselves.” We want to get that messaging out, you know, people need to chill out and relax a little bit.

With Mike’s Jobstacle Course inviting participants to try out a variety of jobs to see how they do, Morris teases that while the majority were already set up, he did work with Mike’s to add a few special ones and see “if they can cut the mustard” before joining him in the booth after the fact and “kick it and have a drink“. When asked which job he may have reservations about doing himself for the event, Morris humorously points to the weather person, as if he makes a mistake, “that’ll be saying a lot about my skills as an entertainer“:

Lamorne Morris: They presented it to me. However, there are a few more obstacles we’re adding that I created, right? And I’ve got your [Mike’s Hard representative] promise. [Laughs] Some of it is entertainment based, which is kind of my wheelhouse, like being a weather person. People feel like that might be an easy job, just got to point at a green screen and go, “It’ll be hot up here. Gonna be hot as hell over there. That’s rain.” [Chuckles] It’s not as simple as one may think, so we’re going to see it and put people to the test to see if they can cut the mustard on some of these gigs.

I’m going to add some dramatic monologues to that, I’m going to test people’s monologue skills. We’ll see whether you’re a taste tester, a bookseller, it doesn’t matter. We want to challenge folks. And then, at the end of the day, which is cool, they can go back and go to the Mike’s Hard booth, and we’re going to kick it and have a drink, and just chit-chat. It’s gonna be a fun time. I’m gonna try all these jobs, and I’m gonna make side bets with people. I’m all over this one. [Chuckles]

I would probably say, weather person, and here’s why. Because I’m in the entertainment space, and I’m used to teleprompters, and I’m used to those things, and being live in front of a group of people when you’re taping a show, whatever the case may be. I don’t want to screw that up, because that’ll be saying a lot about my skills as an entertainer. Because you don’t just have to be informative, you have to be entertaining, as well. So, I’m a little bit nervous about that one, just because if I do a bad job, people will judge me. They’ll judge me a lot harder than they will on any other jobs, for sure. [Chuckles]

Fargo‘s Emmy Nomination Has “Been Crazy” For Morris (But Also Rewarding)

Though Morris may be humorously worried about undermining his entertainment skills in Mike’s Jobstacle Course, he’s going in with one of the truest stamps of his talent with his Emmy nomination for playing Fargo season 5’s Witt. In reflecting on the award nod, the star expresses it as being a “crazy” experience for him, recalling when he learned of the news and his daughter “laughing at me” for crying when he heard the news, while also expressing how the nomination “means the world to me“:

Lamorne Morris: Oh my gosh, it’s been crazy. When I first got the news, I couldn’t speak, I was just crying all the time. My daughter was laughing at me. [Laughs] She was going, “Oh, Daddy, you crying again?” I was like, “You don’t understand, I’m so happy!” So, it’s been a blast. You know, you work hard, and it feels good to be recognized for all the work you’ve put in. I’ve been in this business for a while, and to get that recognition, it means a lot. Literally means the world to me, just because — like on theme — we talked about different jobs that folks have had, you land in a spot in entertainment, and you realize that you’re doing the right thing. And it feels good to be reminded that you’re in the right zone, that this is the thing you’re meant to be doing. And here’s this recognition, here’s this acknowledgement of that. So, it feels really good.

Morris Is Ready To Take The Lead In Jumanji 4

In the midst of his ongoing success, Morris reunited with frequent New Girl director and executive producer Jake Kasdan for a cameo role in Jumanji: The Next Level, appearing in the sequel’s mid-credits scene as a heater repair man who inadvertently opens the door between the game world and real world. In reflecting on this cameo, Morris reveals he initially was asked by Kasdan to be a stand-in for Kevin Hart, Ser’Darius Blaine and Danny Glover at the table read, as the trio couldn’t make it, during which he quickly volunteered for the cameo part. Morris also remains hopeful to return for the in-development Jumanji 4, even humorously expressing being ready to be “the new leader of the franchise“:

Lamorne Morris: Well, I’ll tell you how it happened. So, they do table reads for the scripts, and almost the entire cast was there, except for Kevin Hart, who couldn’t make it to the table read, and Ser’Darius Blaine, who plays Kevin Hart in the movie, but the younger version of Fridge. They weren’t able to be there, and Danny Glover wasn’t able to be there. So, Jake Kasdan called me and asked me if I wanted to fill in those roles, to just read the rules. It went well, it was really funny.

I was sitting right next to The Rock, and The Rock, at the end of it, made an announcement, he said, “This is proof that we can make this franchise without Kevin Hart, guys.” [Laughs] So, at the end of it all, there was this one little scene, the tag at the end of the movie, and I just out loud yelled, “I’ll do this. I want to play this role.” And Jake was like, “Really? You sure?” I said, “Yeah, it’s awesome. I want to be in Jumanji.” So, he gave me the role, and it just so happens to be the setup for the next film. So, hopefully, if they’ve written it already, there is a role for me as the star of the film, and the new leader of the franchise, thanks for saying so.

Morris “Would Love” A Game Night Sequel (Or To Reunite With The Directors On Their Other Major Franchise)

Another recent success in Morris’ filmography is being part of the ensemble Game Night cast alongside Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Billy Magnussen, Sharon Horgan, and Kylie Bunbury. While directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have been wary about the chances of a sequel, Morris remains hopeful to reunite with the cast for a follow-up to the mystery crime comedy, or even the possibility to team with Daley and Goldstein on their other major franchise, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves:

Lamorne Morris: I would love one. Are you kidding me? It set itself up for a sequel, and I just had so much fun working on that project. We shot in Atlanta, which is one of my favorite cities to be in. And the cast is great. Everyone was super kind, super nice. I had a lot of nerves going into it, working with Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams and Jeffrey Wright. All these folks on this movie, Michael C. Hall, I thought, “Oh my god, these are iconic, iconic actors.” Kyle Chandler. “These are folks that I admire so much, I’m a little nervous.” They made it feel like you were in the most comfortable of spots.

Jason was so loose on set, improvised a lot. Rachel would throw barbecues at her house often. It just created a [warm] environment. If you’re working on a project, you want your leads, the stars of your whatever it is you’re doing, to lead by example, and that’s what they did. They made it really comfortable for us, and really easy for us. So, we got to perform at the best of our abilities. And the same with John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, they laid an environment out for us that was super, super easy. If we get a chance to do that again, it’s a no-brainer.

Spider-Noir Will Be “Unlike Anything You’ve Seen

Looking to the future, Morris is set to be part of the cast for Spider-Noir, the Nicolas Cage-led live-action show said to be connected to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe rather than Into the Spider-Verse, in which Cage first played the role. Though Morris can’t share much about the show or his character, reported to be Daily Bugle vet Robbie Robertson, the Emmy nominee did tease that it will be “unlike anything you’ve seen” and praised Cage’s work on the show:

Lamorne Morris: Well, I can’t say much. [Laughs] I can’t say much at all. But I will say it’ll be unlike anything you’ve seen. The way they’re shooting it, what they’re creating is, it’s like I said, it’s unlike anything. Having Nic Cage, you know, he’s already one of the more iconic figures we’ve ever seen in entertainment, and his performance style is crazy. So, I’m really excited for folks to see what we cook up. Like I said, I can’t say too much. You know how these things go, but I can just tell you that it’ll be unlike anything you’ve seen, performance wise and visually.
