'Law and Order' Actor Survives Serial Killer John Wayne Gacy

An actor who has acted before Law and Order And Grey's Anatomy revealed that he survived his encounter with infamous serial killer John Wayne Gacy.

Jack Merrill was a “skinny 19-year-old” kid when Gacy kidnapped him while walking home from a local YMCA 45 years ago. People on Wednesday. Merrill was attacked and held at gunpoint by Gacy during “a horrific night of rape and torture at his farmhouse on the outskirts of Chicago.”

Merrill, who had been living alone since the age of 17, was offered a car by Gacy and took advantage of the opportunity. He thought the man would take him around the corner to his house, but instead Gacy went to another neighborhood. There Gacy asked if Merrill had ever tried “poppers,” or amyl nitrate, before dipping a cloth in an unspecified liquid and pressing it into Merrill's mouth. The young man woke up in handcuffs outside Gacy's home near O'Hare Airport.

“He told me to be quiet,” Merrill recalled. “A light coming from behind the house caught his eyes and I suddenly realized how dangerous he was. I knew I couldn't make him angry. I just had to defuse the situation and act like everything was okay… That's how I survived as a kid; “We learned not to attract attention during my family's anger.”

“He asked if I trusted him, I said I did, and he took off the handcuffs. There was a bar in the middle of the house. We drank beer and he had a strong container, then he put the handcuffs back on and dragged me down the hall to the master bedroom.

At this point, Gacy “put this homemade device” around Merrill's neck. She was restrained “with ropes and pulleys,” she recalled, “and wrapped around my back and passed through my handcuffed hands so hard that if I struggled I would suffocate. At one point I did and started losing air. Gacy then put a gun in Merrill's mouth and began raping her.

“I knew if I fought him I wouldn't have much of a chance. I never got scared or screamed,” Merrill said. “In a way I felt bad for him too, it was like he didn't want to do what he was doing but he couldn't stop. We were there for hours. Eventually I could tell he was tired. “All of a sudden he said, 'I'll take you home.'”

Gacy dropped Merrill off near where he kidnapped the young man. Gacy gave the 19-year-old his phone number before dropping him off. “Maybe we'll get back together sometime,” the killer said.

“When I got home, I flushed the number down the toilet and took a shower. Merrill, I didn't call the police; “I didn't know he was the murderer at the time,” she wrote. “I went to Snowflake Diner and had scrambled eggs and a chocolate milkshake. I made a deal with myself that I would get through this situation. “I wasn't going to leave my happiness in that house.”

At the age of 21, he moved to New York to continue acting and make a fresh start. He went on to a successful career with shows Law and Order, Sex and the CityAnd Grey's Anatomy. Over time, he managed to “forgive” Gacy and continued with the episode. “I learned that no one person's trauma is greater than anyone else's,” he said. “There are a lot of people who have bad things happen to them. Many people who are raped don't talk about it. I understand this. “So far I've only told my close friends.” Still, Merrill says, “I'm proud of the journey. “I was able to learn from the bad and use it for good.”
