Let's talk about photography games

Hello all game developers. It's that time again: Game Developer is looking for proposals for blogs written by developers about a specific industry trendand we want to hear from you. This time, we'll delve into the vast world of photography and video games.

For the next three weeks, from August 19th to September 6th 2024, we will be hosting a open call for developer-written blogs on Game Highlighting Photography and Mechanicswhich will take place from 16 to 24 September 2024.

Game Developer will be sharing insights, postmortems, interviews, developer blogs, and essays on photography and the many ways it is used in games. Throughout the week, we will be exploring:

How does photography enhance open-world environments? Can video game photography teach us about real-life photography? How is our representation of photography limited or enhanced by the medium? What design features can help us achieve an authentic experience? Which games make the most of photography in terms of storytelling? And much more.

If you've developed a photography game, created an engaging take on snapshots, written a review of another game's shooting mechanics, or just feel inspired by the above, drop us a line!

Write a blog about it

If you have ideas on this topic or want to submit a game developer's blog for general publication, here's how to turn it into a blog post:

  • Second, write your blog post in a Google Doc or Microsoft Word, uploading all images in the body to an accompanying shared folder, and submit it via our Blog Submission Form. Be sure to include the phrase “Photography Blog” in your document.

  • Third, wait for confirmation from our editor to know when your blog will appear on Game Developer.

Blogs that fit this theme and align with our Blog Submission Guidelines will appear on the event page along with the rest of the series, with additional promotion and placement for editor-selected featured blogs.

The Game Developer blog section is where game developers can post editorials, tutorials, postmortems, and other forms of design analysis about the games and topics that matter most to them as game developers. Requested blogs are eligible for placement in our featured section, which is highlighted on the front page of Game Developer along with social media promotion and placement in the newsletter alongside our top stories.
