Dr. Dre may be best known for his hits and enduring presence in the hip-hop world, but the Grammy-winning artist actually has a long history with the sport, and he's so excited about the Olympics coming to his hometown in 2028 that he hopes to compete in the Summer Games himself.
The “Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang” rapper opened up about his Olympic dreams in an interview on August 12. Fun tonight. “I'm trying to qualify for the 2028 Olympics,” he explained. “I'm dead f– seriously.”
When asked if she would compete in break, which debuted in Paris but is not part of the Los Angeles Olympic program, the 59-year-old immediately dismissed the idea. Instead, she hopes to pick up a bow and arrow and win a gold medal in archery for Team USA.
While it may seem like an odd choice for Dre, he's not a complete stranger to the sport. In fact, his history with archery goes back decades. “I actually started doing archery in middle school,” he explained.
“I stopped for a while and my son got me a setup,” the Compton native continued. “I set it up in my backyard. And I heard that the Olympics qualifying is 77 feet, and I train at 90 feet.”
“Wouldn't it be interesting to go here, especially to be in Los Angeles and win a gold medal?” he thought.
Dre has already had the chance to attend some of LA28's events. On August 11, Dre performed alongside Olympics reporter Snoop Dogg in Long Beach for the Olympic handover celebration as part of the 2024 closing ceremony.
The countdown to July 14, 2028 has begun.
