Although Spider man most commonly associated with the famous slogan, viz “With great power comes great responsibility” there's another Marvel character who lives his life by the same logic: Magnetic. As revealed in an early issue Ultimate X-Menthe mutant villain has his own version of the iconic line to survive—with a darker twist.
Ultimate X-Men #5 Cyclops joins Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants by Mark Millar, Andy Kubert, Danny Miki and Joe Weems. Cyclops broke away from the fledgling X-Men after fighting Charles Xavier in the previous issue and witnessing a kiss between Jean Gray and Wolverine.
In the Savage Land, Magneto tells the disappointed Cyclops that mankind “a fundamentally flawed creation,” so the mutants must replace them as soon as possible. Magneto says, “As more intelligent species, one might even say it is our moral responsibility,“Putting a sinister twist on Spider-Man's own guiding principle.
Magneto Believes in “Great Responsibility”.
Marvel's Ultimate Universe Magneto, while similar in many ways, has a number of notable differences from his Earth-616 counterpart. Primarily, Earth's Magneto-1610 is depicted as a more hostile, amoral character with an open hatred and contempt for the human race. While Marvel's original Magneto certainly looked down on humans and often played the villain, Ultimate Magneto takes those sentiments a step further. He is repeatedly shown calling for the destruction of the human race, seeing it as the natural conclusion of his struggle for mutant supremacy.
Magneto's speech to Scott Summers reveals that the villainous version of Earth-1610 has one important similarity to his Earth-616 counterpart: he still sees himself as a hero. Magneto, with his warped logic, actually thinks along the same lines as Spider-Man. both characters believe that their great powers give them a level of moral commitment that others lack. While Peter Parker sees it as his duty to protect others, Eric Lensherr finds his role in subordination. He thinks it's his job to save Earth from humanity and even save people from themselves.
Ultimate Magneto and Ultimate Spider-Man are Polar Opposites
Magneto's quote highlights an interesting difference between himself and Ultimate Spider-Man. This darker, more vengeful version of Magneto is in many ways consistent with the rest of the Ultimate Universe. As Marvel began to create this new continuity, a more modern and grounded spin on the original universe, many heroes and villains received harsher characterizations. Captain America is more brutal, Hank Pym is more abusive, and Mister Fantastic eventually becomes one of Marvel's greatest villains. Given how violent the Ultimate Universe is in general, a more brutal Magneto feels fitting.
All of this contrasts with Spider-Man, It is a notable exception to the more rigid characterization of the Ultimate Universe. Although most of the 1610 heroes are complete idiots – as Spider-Man himself has pointed out several times – Peter sticks to his uncle Ben's words and only wants to help others. Ultimate Spider-Man has its share of tragic stories and angry outbursts, but young Peter Parker retains the character's humor and naivety, sometimes even more so than his 616 counterparts at the time. Magnetic Ultimate is one of Marvel's greatest villains, however Spider man remains the universe's greatest hero—making his eventual death all the more tragic.
