Man fatally shot at Harlem bodega: NYPD

A man was shot and killed inside a Harlem bodega Sunday evening, and police were searching for a suspect Monday.

According to NYPD officials, 30-year-old Jazeke Samuels was found with gunshot wounds in his torso and left arm around 6 p.m. Sunday, inside Legends Exotic Candy Shop on W. 142nd Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard.

First responders rushed Samuels to NYC Health and Hospitals/Metropolitan in East Harlem, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said a dispute with another man may have sparked the shooting, but said they were still investigating. The address officials provided for Samuels was two blocks away from the shop where he was killed.

Samuels is the 12th person to be fatally shot in Harlem this year, according to data from the NYPD compiled by Gothamist.

In September, 65-year-old Anthony Williams was shot and killed two avenues away on W. 142nd Street and Malcolm X Boulevard. The Daily News reported Williams was a beloved jerk chicken vendor in the neighborhood and was gunned down by a man who was allegedly trying to steal his backpack.

Police later arrested and charged 28-year-old Trenton Henry with murder and robbery in the case.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
