Marvel Confirms Its Most Underrated God Is More Powerful Than Ever

Contains spoilers for Immortal Thor #15!Thor has faced many other gods in his time, but one Avengers villain, at least in his opinion, may be superior to them all. This God of Darkness has been killing Gods for a long time, but in Marvel's perennial world, good always triumphs over evil, so there's only so much he can do.

In Thor the Immortal #15 Al Ewing, Jean Bazaldua, Matt Hollingsworth and Joe Sabino Nyx, the Olympian Goddess of Darkness, boasts in her new realm that even an overpowered Thor is no match for him.

In There's no way homehe is defeated by Vision when he channels the single largest light source in all of Marvel: heroism. This is the level where the Gods operate. Who cares if Nyx can beat Thor? In a multiverse literally built on heroes beating up villains, light will always metaphysically triumph over darkness in the end. Nyx's earlier defeat also perfectly illustrates the metaphysical difference between Superheroes and Gods in Marvel.

Some Gods, like Thor and Hercules, are also superheroes, but Gods are concepts and ideas that have become literal beings. The Greek, Norse, and other classical cultures created their gods in part to explain the natural world and to give life to nature. It's just that in the Marvel Multiverse, these stories actually shaped the Gods and vice versa. Ewing understands that divine battles are literal battles of ideas. Nyx can do the best Thorbut as long as there is hope, the darkness will never overcome the light for too long.
