Mass Food Poisoning at Seafood Business Made 46 People Sick

On October 21, nearly four dozen people working at a seafood factory needed medical attention following a mass food poisoning incident.

The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services received reports of multiple people feeling ill and asked them to dispatch firefighters and paramedics to the scene around 3:45 p.m. to evaluate the affected individuals.

The individuals were examined and transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment and monitoring. None of them were in critical condition. However, due to the large influx of patients in such a short time, the hospital went into “mini disaster alert”.

“The Health Department is working with partners to investigate the cause of what we currently believe is an isolated incident,” the Howard County Health Department said in an update. he said.

It turned out that the food poisoning was not caused by seafood at the NAFCO factory, but by the outside lunch that all 46 workers ate. NAFCO officials told WJLA Employees started feeling sick three hours after eating the meal.
