Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene put up a valiant effort in Tuesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals, but the 25-year-old may have had a nervous breakdown and threw up on the mound midway through the game. And it was the second such incident in less than two months.
The moment came during the fifth inning. In livestream video that has since been posted online, Greene can be seen walking a few steps from the mound and raising his glove toward his face, before a stream of vomit sprays through the net. “Uh oh,” an announcer can be heard saying before the video cuts to black.
“Yeah, I'm not checking that glove for foreign objects,” joked pitching analyst Rob Friedman, who posted the clip online. “You're good, man.”

Still, despite his obvious stomach issues, Greene pitched seven innings, allowed just one run on four hits, and struck out eight opposing players. When all was said and done, his season ERA fell to 2.83.
Strangely, Greene experienced a similar stomach upset immediately after throwing a 95 mph fastball during a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 25. The latter appears to be one of the few times he's been sick this season, according to Cardinals writer John Denton.

It is not yet known whether Greene has any other health issues other than a neurological condition, but team manager David Bell said he played down any concerns after the Reds won 4-1.
“I think most of us sometimes want to throw up during a game and it doesn't come out,” Bell said in his post-game press conference. “Maybe he's feeling better after this.”
