Shipyard Games, a Finnish developer known mostly for mobile game Go City, has It closed quietly after seven years of business.
For Pocket playerThe studio previously shared the news via Discord in May. At the time, co-founder/CEO Andreas Wedenberg called it a “critical” situation, saying the company had run out of money and its current investor had dropped support.
The investor, Supercellinvested a $2.9 million minority stake in the Helsinki-based developer in 2017. At the time, Shipyard was only a few months old, and it’s unclear when or why Supercell shelved the portfolio.
The latest (and final) version of the shipyard has been The wizards and the kingdoms go, which Wedenberg acknowledged actually only had “1-2 weeks” of content in its initial state. With the studio gone, the game will no longer receive updates and will eventually go offline.
“We sincerely appreciate all your help. […] “We are very sorry that we could not finish the game that you all deserved,” he concluded, “but unfortunately dreams often need money to come true, and we have run out of it.”
