Monsters Season 2 Criticized by Eric Menendez for 'Naïve and Inaccurate' Portrayal of Him and His Brother

With viewers already divided on the new season, Eric Menendez has some sharp criticism Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Eric Menendez. This show marks Ryan Murphy's second season Monster The Netflix anthology follows the infamous story of the titular siblings, who murdered their parents in 1989 and eventually went to trial in 1996 and received life sentences without the possibility of parole. Directed by Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Cooper Koch, Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny. Monsters Season 2 proved to be as controversial as its predecessor, namely due to the portrayal of the brothers.

After the premiere Eric Menendez (via Deadline) wrote a long criticizing post on his Facebook page Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Eric Menendez. Menendez began her post by expressing her disappointment with how the show portrayed her and her brother.dishonest“and this there was media”It went beyond Lyle's lies and destructive character descriptions. He also continues to express disbelief that Murphy is “This is naive and inaccurate” regarding the facts of the story:

I believed we had gone beyond Lyle's lies and destructive character portrayals by creating a caricature of Lyle based on the horrible and blatant likes of the show. I can only believe that they did it on purpose. It is with a heavy heart that Ryan Murphy cannot be so naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives that he can do this without malice. It saddens me to know that Netflix's dishonest portrayal of the tragedies surrounding our crime takes the painful truths a few steps back—an era where the prosecution has built a narrative over time on a belief system that men are not sexually abused, and that men experience the trauma of rape differently than women.

Menendez continues to criticize the way the media has portrayed both brothers over the years, specifically “the countless brave victims who overcame their personal shame and spoke out bravely over the past two decades.” He continues to ask “Is the truth not enough?means “and”.demoralization” feeling it with the show, Murphy”could undermine decades of progress in shedding light on childhood trauma“. Menendez ends his message by thanking “all those who supported me“:

These terrible lies have been broken and exposed over the past two decades by countless brave victims who have broken through their personal shame and bravely spoken out. So now Murphy shapes his horrific narrative through vile and disgusting character descriptions and heart-wrenching slander of Lyle and I. Isn't the truth enough? Let the truth stand as the truth. How disheartening to know that a person with power can undermine decades of progress in shedding light on childhood trauma. Violence is never the answer, never the solution, and always tragic. And so I hope it will never be forgotten that child abuse creates a hundred gruesome and silent crime scenes that lie in the dark shadows behind the glitz and glamour, and are rarely exposed until the tragedy sinks in on everyone involved. To everyone who reached out and supported me. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Will viewers walk away from watching Murphy's show?

Menendez's comments Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Eric Menendez It will certainly be disturbing for those who want to follow Murphy's latest fight against a notorious true crime. The Emmy winner first got off to a strong start The People v. OJ Simpson – American Crime Storyit was praised for its fast pace and general adherence to the facts of a real trial, even as it was criticized by some of the real people involved. Looking at viewership ratings for his shows, it's clear that Murphy's defenders have generally stuck with him, even as his true-crime projects have become increasingly divisive. So that iit doesn't seem so Monsters Season 2 will see viewers turn away from watching Story by Lyle and Eric Menendezeven with Eric's criticisms of its factual accuracy. The first season of the show, Dahmer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Storyreceived wide acclaim, but still became the third Netflix show to surpass 1 billion views in its first 60 days.

Our Monsters of Menendez Season 2 Reviews

Regardless of how the show fares in the long run, Menendez's criticisms suggest it's time for Murphy to rethink his approach to the true crime genre moving forward. after Story of Lyle and Eric Menendez, Murphy has many parts in both American Crime Story and Monster anthologiesincluding JFK Jr. spinoff, American love storyand the latter, which will star Charlie Hunnam as notorious serial killer Ed Gein, is the main inspiration behind the creation of season 3. PsychoNorman Bates.

Some true crime stories certainly lend themselves better to Murphy's iconic talent for the extreme, but even with a show like this. Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Eric Menendeza sense of sensitivity that doesn't necessarily appear to compliment the titular figures is still appreciated not only by myself, but by figures on both sides of something like a murder trial. with Monsters With season 3 still in production, I hope that Murphy listens not only to Menendez's criticisms, but also to those of his previous shows, of course, making adjustments for a more meaningful portrayal of other stories in his works.
