M&M's fans rejoice as discontinued flavour is revived after nine years

M&M's will reportedly be releasing a brand new flavor this fall that's reminiscent of a limited-edition variety that was discontinued nearly a decade ago. And it seems safe to say fans are on board.

According to junk food and sweets news Instagram account CandyHunting, the brand's parent company, Mars, Inc., is expected to debut new Peanut Butter & Jelly M&M's at the National Association of Convenience Stores trade show in Las Vegas in October. A mockup of the packaging shows the (formerly “sexy”) green M&M holding a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, with one finger provocatively dipped into the filling.

The new variety's “flavored peanut butter filling” is thought to be similar to the Strawberry Peanut Butter M&Ms that were introduced in 2009. Transformers: Revenge of the FallenThis flavor remained on the market for six years until it was discontinued in 2015.

It's not yet clear how similar the new Peanut Butter & Jelly M&M's will be to its predecessor, but fans are already getting excited.

“LFG! I've been wanting something like this since I first discovered Strawberried Peanut Butters existed,” New York City-based food blogger Marcus Smith commented. “Finally! I've been dreaming of this flavor for so long. Dreams come true!” one user gushed.

“Were the PBJ M&Ms connected to… Transformers? I don't remember what movie it was but they were SO GOOD!!” another correctly guessed.

On how the brand will incorporate jelly into its new confections, the food rankings and product review website He spoke He notes that, based on the rendering, the M&M's look the same as a regular Peanut Butter M&M's. The strawberry flavor of the Strawberried Peanut Butter M&M's was baked into either a candy shell or milk chocolate (depending on which older reviews are correct), so based on the description, it seems like that could very well be the case here.

It's not known exactly when the new Peanut Butter & Jelly M&M's will be available nationwide, but consumers will likely find them on shelves in 2025.
