NASCAR Driver Injures Himself While Celebrating Truck Series Victory

Professional stock car racing driver Layne Riggs earned his first major victory in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series on Sunday, but he unintentionally injured himself while celebrating the momentous victory.

The 22-year-old second-generation driver, son of former NASCAR driver Scott Riggs, stood on top of his car and pumped his fist in celebration just minutes after taking the top spot at Wisconsin’s Milwaukee Mile, beating out Ty Majeski, Christian Eckes, Nick Sanchez and Taylor Gray. Unfortunately, he was perhaps a little too enthusiastic about his victory and managed to literally dislocate his shoulder.

Riggs was seen writhing in pain while still on the car, requiring the pit crew to help him get the car back into place.

“Yeah, I dislocated my shoulder, I was celebrating so big,” Riggs said after the event. TMZOddly enough, this isn't the first time Riggs has been injured while celebrating a career win.

“It hurts but it was worth it. It's not the first time it's happened to me but it's not going to slow me down,” he continued. “I've done it before but never on the victory track. I think it's shoulder dislocation number 9. Fast jerky movements. And I think I got a little too excited.”

The next truck series race is scheduled for September 19th in Bristol, TN, so at least he has plenty of time to rest and recover in the meantime. And hopefully he learns his lesson this time.

The victory moved Riggs into 12th place in the Truck Series standings. Although this was his first Truck Series victory, the young driver is no stranger to victory.

In 2022, at age 20, he became the youngest NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series champion in series history. He finished four points ahead of previous year’s champion Peyton Sellers, who previously became the youngest driver to win the championship in 2005 at age 21.
