Starting December 1, Netflix may delete all previously released interactive TV shows from its library.
Matt Layzellcreator of the streamer's animated series Battle Kitty, said on Instagram that his show and others like it would be removed as soon as Netflix “wipes the slate clean on its interactive shows.” Like the Lost media buster note, these interactive shows include Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Minecraft: Story Mode. As of this writing, some (but not all) of these series have been archived.
Back inside Januarya report from Game File claimed that Netflix had already completely wiped its hands of the whole interactive venture. Mike Verdu, then head of Netflix Games and now VP of its GenAI divisionthe streamer said at the time “[was] no longer building those specific experiences.” While he said Netflix “has learned a ton” from the format, he also acknowledged that it has been stifled by “very limiting” technology.
Since then, Netfix has focused more on acquiring games for its titular service Oxenfree II, Hades, and the remastered Grand Theft Auto Trilogy.
It also recently closed its doors triple A studio apartment who was developing an original project for PC and console. That team's staff included longtime industry alumni such as Joe Staten from Halo AND Chacko Sonny from Overwatchand Netflix is now reaffirming its position as a platform mobile-first developer.
The game's developer has reached out to Netflix for comment and will update when a response is provided.
