Nick Offerman Destroys 'Parks and Rec' Set During Makeup Scene

Nick Offerman and his wife, Megan Mullally, recalled the crazy makeup session they shared on set. Parks and Recreation During a recent interview with Ted Danson Where Everyone Knows Your Name podcast.

Offerman played Ron Swanson on NBC's sitcom, which ran for seven seasons from 2009 to 2015. Mullally, who has been married to Offerman since 2003, appeared in nine episodes of the NBC series. Parks and Entertainment As Ron's second ex-wife, she was nicknamed “Tammy II” because Ron's first wife (Patricia Clarkson) was also named Tammy. Tammy II returns several times throughout the series to infuriate Ron, which inevitably leads to seduction.

The couple admitted their real-life passion for each other boiled over while filming scenes for “Ron and Tammy,” the eighth episode of the second season, which marked Mullally's debut on the show. “The first scene we shot was very early, like 6:30 in the morning,” Mullally recalls. “It was a motel, and we had to desperately try to get to this motel so we could go for it,” he explained.

Mullally had the idea that her character would take off her bra before arriving at the motel. “I took off my bra and shouted 'action!' That's why they said. [Offerman] I scream into this parking lot and throw my bra out the car window. We got out of the car, I slammed the doors, got in and took off my sweater. They had to put it like a dark circle to darken my breasts. We ran back to the motel and then a guy came and said, 'Hi, I'm Troy.' [Miller]I'm the director.”

“Great first take,” Offerman interjected. “And they used it!” Mullally added.

In the next scene of the day, things continued to escalate between the couple as they were about to have a heated argument at a restaurant. After filming the scripted lines, the director told Mullally and Offerman to “do whatever you have to do.” The couple took this as an invitation to kiss.

“We were making out like crazy on the table,” Mullally said. The scene became so passionate that Offerman, in character, destroyed the set. “Nick looked so much like Ron Swanson at one point, he was so angry, he was high on Testosterone, we were in a booth at this diner and Nick actually pulled the table out of the wall,” Mullally marveled. “He pulled the real table out of the wall!”
