Police say a woman was struck by a train Saturday morning after being pushed onto the tracks — but survived the impact and is being treated for her injuries — while another man died after allegedly jumping in front of a different train.
NYPD officers responded to a 911 call just before 10:30 a.m. saying a woman had been struck by a 3 train at the Fulton Street station in Manhattan. When they arrived, police said they found the woman, 29, conscious and responsive but confirmed she had been pushed onto the tracks. She was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.
Detectives are investigating whether the woman knew her attacker, police said, but have not publicly identified a suspect.
About an hour later police said a man appeared to have jumped in front of an E train at the 7th Avenue and West 53rd Street station. Officers found the man unresponsive and declared him dead at the scene.
D, E and F trains were running with delays as were 2 and 3 trains — which were both skipping Fulton Street — as of 1:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the MTA.
The incidents come amid a significant surge of law enforcement personnel searching bags in train stations, including about 1,000 state police and National Guard troops.
Gov. Kathy Hochul said the military presence is meant to create a “psychological” sense of safety among passengers.
Police said both incidents are still under investigation and neither of the victims’ names have been released.
