NYPD: Infant found dead in Staten Island building

NYPD officials said they’re investigating the death of a one-month-old boy who was found unconscious inside of a building in Staten Island.

Police said they responded to a 911 call at around 6:45 a.m. on Saturday and found the baby unresponsive.

EMS workers transported the infant to Richmond University Medical Center, where doctors found visible signs of trauma to his left arm, police said, and the baby was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The child’s parents, Leonard Thompson, 38, and Jenice Lightfoot, 36, were both arrested and charged with reckless endangerment in the first and second degrees, according to the NYPD. There were no other children present at the scene, police said.

The chief medical examiner is still determining the cause of death.
