One of Henry Winkler's Iconic Roles Was 'Favor' to Adam Sandler

Henry Winkler and Adam Sandler have shared the screen a few times over the years, but their role together in 1998's one of Winkler's most famous movies. WaterboyIt was completely unplanned.

Winkler talked about his role in the sports comedy in a recent interview. Let's Talk Behind the Scenes with Kelly Ripa podcast.

“I did [The] water boy. He called me at midnight. 'Henry, I need a favor,' he said. My player did not come. I want you to go to the park right now,'” Winkler recounted. “In Los Angeles, it's 11:30 at night right now. I go and say, 'Okay.' I'm shaving. I'm driving. I am going. I'm sitting. “I'm wearing makeup until 3:30 in the morning.”

It was an extreme act of kindness in the middle of the night, but Winkler's immediate reward seemed quite meager. “You know what I bought? A cookie,” he recalled. “I couldn't even hide my wardrobe.”

Inside WaterboyWinkler played the coach of a failing college football team who recruits the water boy, played by Sandler, to help revive his hopes. It carries the struggling team to victory.
