One of the stars of the original Halloween died after “a brief illness” Variation reported.
Charles Cyphers, who played Sheriff Lee Brackett in John Carpenter's 1978 horror film and its two sequels, died on Sunday at the age of 85. Cyphers' manager, Chris Roe, confirmed the tragic news.
“Charles was a lovely and sensitive man,” Roe said in a statement. “He always told the best stories and you would give a full performance when he was telling them to you. He was a close friend and client for many years. [sic] “He will be greatly missed.”
Cyphers originally starred in Halloween as the father of Annie (Nancy Kyes), the town sheriff and one of Laurie Strode's (Jamie Lee Curtis) hapless friends. Also in 1981 Halloween II; and came out of retirement to reprise his role Halloween Kills (2021), the middle installment of David Gordon Green's controversial reboot trilogy.
“I am so sorry to hear about your dear Chuck,” Kyes said. People Upon hearing of Cyphers' death. “A friend of mine for many years, someone I could always count on for a kind word, a good laugh and a great story. How he will be missed.”
Cyphers was one of the best-known actors during the 70s and 80s, appearing in classic shows such as: FBI, Alice, Starsky and Hutch, Hill Street Blues, MatlockAnd Dallasamong others. But it was his ongoing collaboration with Carpenter that he was best known for.
Cyphers appeared in six films directed by Carpenter, including Halloween and many of the director's most acclaimed films. He played a conservative police officer in the action classic Attack on Area 13 (1976); a psychopathic pervert Someone Is Watching Me (1978); a convicted weatherman Fog (1980); and U.S. Secretary of Defense Escape from New York (1981) and following, Escape from Los Angeles (1997).
Later in his career, Cyphers turned to comedy and appeared in the following roles: Major League (1989) and SeinfeldHe retired in 2007 and returned for his final performance three years ago. Halloween Kills.
“The family is requesting privacy at this time. The celebration of life ceremony will take place at a date and location to be determined,” Roe explained in a later statement.
