Original 'SNL' Star Dan Aykroyd Gives Honest Review of New Biopic

Aykroyd took to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday night to give his review of Reitman's film, which opened nationwide last week after a limited release in late September.

“Breaking your head to applaud Jason Reitman's victory SNL film. Wow!” Aykroyd raved. “What a stimulating, engaging, funny, beautiful cast and acting, gripping, adventurous, musical journey,” he continued. “A perfect window into the creative process at the highest level. Quite a is also true.”

Lists the film, written by Reitman himself and Gil Kenan SNLA tumultuous start, from a last-minute replacement for Johnny Carson to the most influential sketch comedy series of the last 50 years. Many of Aykroyd's former co-stars are also portrayed in the film; Chevy Chase (Cory Michael Smith) and Gilda Radner (Ella Hunt), creator/producer Lorne Michaels (Gabriel LaBelle) and writer Rosie Schuster (Rachel Sennott).

“I was there that night and had the opportunity to relive it in a wonderful way,” Aykroyd added. “Congratulations Gil, Jason and Blumie. Whether you know the show or not, don't miss it. This is a stand-alone masterpiece and a definite nominee for Best Picture,” the actor remarked.

Lamorne Morris, who played Aykroyd's former co-star Garrett Morris in the film, commented on Aykroyd's post. “Yes indeed!!!!! I hope we made you proud!” Morris wrote.

Reitman said last week: Entertainment Weekly There was “really positive response” from real people portrayed in the film. “Everyone was so nice,” he said, “that's the honest-to-God truth. They were really sweet.”
