Outer Banks It has attracted a diverse fan base across four seasons since its release on Netflix in 2020. But after a successful run on the streamer, the series' days are officially numbered.
The show's creators, Shannon Burke, Josh Pate, and Jonas Pate, wrote an open letter confirming that the show's fifth season will be its last.
“In the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of young people on the beach at dusk during a power outage. This photo sparked an idea for the story of four close friends who always just wanted to have a good time.” the trio said, according to Netflix. “From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunt, and friendship.”
“At the time, seven years ago, it seemed impossible that we could truly tell the entire five-season story, but here we are, still forging ahead at the end of our fourth season,” they continued. “Season four was our longest and most difficult – but most rewarding – episode to produce. The season culminates with a feature-length episode that we feel is our best, strongest episode. We hope you feel the same way.”
“It is now with some sadness, but also excitement, that we leave season 4 behind and return to season 5, where we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home the way we dreamed and planned all those years ago.” He concluded. “Season 5 will be our last season, and we think it will be our best season yet.”
Details on when season 5 will be filmed and when it will premiere are still unclear. The second half of season 4 will premiere on Netflix on November 7.
