Another publishing label from an independent developer has entered the fray, this time from Owlcat Games. THE Warhammer 40,000: Rebel Trader The studio has created a label specializing in narrative-driven titles.
These games don't have to be RPGs, but they still need to “highlight strong storytelling, rich characters, and immersive worldbuilding.” For more “gameplay-focused” titles with a focus on multiplayer, Owl Cat indicated that they would fall under his separate publishing label META.
After self-publishing Trader AND Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, the studio wanted to help teams in similar situations. Its ultimate goal is to “deliver exciting new experiences similar to what we as a studio aim to create ourselves.”
As with other indies labelsOwlcat will provide full support for development, marketing, community management and testing. Porting services have also been explicitly stated to help studios “expand [their] reach more platforms.”
Owlcat already has two clients lined up in the Serbian studio Emotion Spark and the Polish team Another Angle. The first one is working on the narrative RPG Valley of the Rue of a man in a time loop, while the latter is Shadow of the road is an isometric role-playing game set in feudal Japan.
Both projects are said to be in “early development,” but the wider reveal will take place in August.
