Patriots Safety, Team Captain Arrested on Assault and Drug Charges

New England Patriots safety and team captain Jabrill Peppers was arrested in Braintree, MA on Saturday and faces multiple charges including assault, battery and drug possession.

News of the arrest broke early Monday after Peppers was visibly absent from the Patriots' 15-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

According to Braintree police, officers received a call Saturday morning from a person reporting an argument between two people. It was learned that the injured person, who came to the scene upon the notice of the police and medical teams, was intervened.

Peppers is expected to be arraigned Monday in Quincy District Court in Massachusetts.

After the news broke on Monday, the Patriots released a brief statement addressing the issue. “We are aware of the incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend and police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time,” the team said.

Later that day, head coach Jerod Mayo sat down with reporters on WEEI sports radio and said: “He called me that morning. I knew what was going on. We notified the NFL what was going on and we're still gathering information.”

When asked if Peppers was still with the team as of now, Mayo said it was too early to tell. “I don't think anyone knows the facts or anything like that. It's a process,” he said.

Peppers has been playing for the Patriots since 2022 and was named team captain at the beginning of this season. Prior to his time in New England, Peppers played for the Browns in the first round at the University of Michigan in 2017.
