In a new interview with GQ, Gladiator II Star Paul Mescal has responded to widespread viral rumors about his alleged behavior after one-night stands, explaining that it made his mother “upset.”
For several months, social media users spread unsubstantiated rumors that Mescal broke up with his one-night stands the next morning, took them for a walk in the park, and then suddenly sped away from them. Many felt that the actor's routine morning runs were proof of this.
Apparently the rumors stemmed from a similar but even stranger urban legend that suggested Mescal would meet a woman at a bar, ask her to go for a walk, and then abandon them during the walk. What the actor can gain from this scenario is anyone's guess.

Normal People Star dismissed the rumors as “absolutely false” and added that she and her family “looked at the videos and felt angry at ourselves… We were laughing, laughing, laughing, laughing.”
But Mescal's mother was not amused. “The only thing that made me sad was being in the kitchen, I remember my mom looking at the videos and getting upset.” After Sun Oscar nominee recalled. βIsn't this devastating?β
Mescal continued: “Oh, it was funny for us β my brother, me, my sister β because we know that's how the Internet works. It's very funny. It would be terrible if it were true, but it's funny as a rumor. And then I thought: If a If you're a mother, her impulse was to come out and say, 'He wouldn't do that.'”
But Mescal is savvy enough to realize that a certain amount of discourse (no matter how far-fetched) is beneficial to his career, and that it's safer to let fans theorize rather than give away too much information about himself. “It's better for someone to have a strong opinion about you than to have no opinion at all, even if it's wrong,” he said. “You know who you are behind closed doors, and that's the private part that needs to be protected.”
