Pablo Picasso was a Spanish painter and sculptor, considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He was the creator, along with Georges Braque, of cubism, an artistic movement that broke with the traditional representation of form and space. Picasso also explored other genres and techniques, such as drawing, engraving, ceramics, sculpture and stage design. His work spans more than seventy-five years of creative activity, in which he reflected his life experiences, his political ideals, his loves and his passions.

Picasso was born on October 25, 1881 in Málaga, the son of a painter and art teacher. From a very young age he showed his talent for drawing and painting, and was influenced by his father and other artists such as El Greco and Toulouse-Lautrec. In 1898 he held his first solo exhibition in Barcelona, and in 1900 he traveled for the first time to Paris, where he settled permanently in 1904. There he met other avant-garde artists, such as Henri Matisse, Juan Gris and Guillaume Apollinaire, and his first romantic partners, such as Fernande Olivier and Eva Gouel.

Picasso was a prolific artist, who produced more than 20,000 works throughout his life. His work is found in museums and collections around the world, and has been the subject of numerous exhibitions and studies. There are also museums dedicated exclusively to his work, such as the Picasso Museum in Barcelona, the Picasso Museum in Paris, the Picasso Museum in Málaga and the Picasso Museum in Antibes. Picasso was an artist recognized and admired in life, and received various awards and honors, such as the Lenin Peace Prize in 1962. Picasso died on April 8, 1973 in Mougins, France, at the age of 91, and was buried in the castle of Vauvenargues.
