I hope so The Lord of the Rings does not repeat the previous mistake with the franchise Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Andy Serkis as Gollum The Lord of the Rings and in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journeywill serve as Hunt for Gollum's director, along with Peter Jackson was added as a producer. The film is scheduled to be released in 2026 and Serkis, who plays Gollum in a prequel story, is expected to star The Fellowship of the Ring.
Another familiar franchise actor already attached to the project is Ian McKelleneach playing Gandalf The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies. McKellen shared that he was approached to play the beloved wizard again, and later told Hunt for Gollum there will be two movies. This development has yet to be officially confirmed, but if proven true, it would follow in the footsteps of a previous misstep for the fantasy franchise.
It looks like The Hunt for Gollum might repeat the Lord of the Rings franchise mistake
The Hobbit Trilogy Shouldn't Have Been
If The Hunt for Gollum split into two films, I fear it will make the same mistake The Hobbit movies, took about 300 pages of source material and turned it into a trilogy. Each part of the trilogy was a financial success and I enjoyed different aspects of each film, but they were ultimately not effective adaptations of JRR Tolkien's source material. This was especially noticeable The Battle of the Five Armiesmainly focuses on combat, which is only a short part of the book.

The Hobbit Bilbo Baggins is supposed to be the story, but Bilbo misses most of the battle because he is temporarily unconscious. Martin Freeman did a fantastic job as Bilbo, but lost sight of his arc as the film trilogy progressed and focused more on massive battle sequences, non-book characters and storylines, including Thor's conflict with Azog the Defiler and his inclusion. Legolas. The Hobbit only a maximum of two films were neededwhile The Hunt for Gollum there should be only one movie.
Splitting Golum's Hunt into Two Movies Doesn't Make Sense
There Is No Source Material Necessary To Be Two Movies
while The Hobbit the trilogy had an entire novel to match, The Hunt for Gollum As there is no extant source material fully devoted to this story, there is very little to draw from it. There are only references in Tolkien's works, including Aragorn speaking to the Council of Rivendell. The Fellowship of the Ring there was “needless to say” What happened during the hunt for Gollum. The Battle of the Five Armies didn't need to be its own movie, but at least there was enough information The Hobbit to widen the title conflict.
Even the franchise's upcoming standalone anime film,
War of the Rohirrim
seems to have a bigger story than that
The Hunt for Gollum
does, which makes the latter's two-film potential even more questionable.
The Hunt for Gollum Based on limited information from Tolkien's writingscan connect with The Lord of the Rings feel very weak. This worries me that there may not be enough to warrant a single film, and splitting the story into two films only makes the problem worse. Even the franchise's upcoming standalone anime film, War of the Rohirrimseems to have a bigger story than that The Hunt for Gollum does, which makes the latter's two-film potential even more questionable.
I Really Hope Ian McKellen's Lord Of The Rings Movie Update Is Not True
The Hunt for My Arm Shouldn't Be Two Movies
since Hunt for Gollum appears to be still in relatively early stagesI hope it doesn't actually end up being two movies. I was already worried that Warner Bros. would not, not because the film had a compelling story to tell. Discovery CEO David Zaslav wants to further capitalize on his company's famous intellectual property. Taking on a dubious premise and committing to potentially two more films does nothing to assuage these concerns.
The Lord of the Rings is one of the most commercially and critically successful trilogies of all time, but that doesn't mean every live-action Middle-earth project has to be made into more than one movie. You don't need to get to know him The Lord of the Rings' to know that so much that could happen with Gollum and the One Ring before that Brotherhoodanother sign that multiple installments are not necessary. All these factors give me hope Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum instead of two movies, there will be only one movie.
