Nintendo has revealed Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will go offline on November 29th. The good news? A paid version of the game will go online the same day.
The free-to-play mobile spin-off launched in November 2017, and Nintendo called it an honor to “watch everyone's adorable and diverse campsites grow and thrive. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the many players who have loved Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.”
As for the Paid versionPlayers will be able to transfer save data from the free version Pocket field version by linking their Nintendo Account. Nintendo explained that it will effectively be the exact same game, without any in-app purchases or subscription services.
Furthermore, the new Pocket field will not require a constant online connection, which will affect some features like gifting and visiting players. Further details, such as pricing, will be revealed in October.
Nintendo's efforts in the mobile sector
Nintendo has released several mobile games over the years, most of which have been shut down. This is the latest shutdown since Lost Dragalia at the end of 2022.
His approach to the remaining phone games is mixed. While Fire Emblem Heroes receives new content regularly, Mario Kart Tour stopped receiving new content at the end of 2023, just a year after losing its controversial gacha mechanics.
Shutting down a game only to re-release a paid version is a first for Nintendo and adds another inconvenience to its mobile gaming lineup.
