Pocketpair Says Palworld Won't Go Free-to-Play, But Admits It Flirted With the Idea

Pal World developer Pocket Couple stated that the game will not go free-to-play.

Last week, translated comments emerged from CEO Takuro Mizobe, in which he spoke about the future of the game. At the time, he claimed that the studio was debating whether or not to move to a live-service, free-to-play model.

During that interview, Mizobe noted that a change would help “extend [Palworld’s] lifespan and make it more stable in terms of profitability.” At the same time, he acknowledged that it was not built with free-to-play in mind and that changing the model could be a challenge in itself.

Pocket Couple has now clarified that the interview was conducted “months ago” and has firmly decided not to make the game free-to-play.

However, Pocketpair added that they are still evaluating paid DLC and in-game skins to support the game. But at the moment there is nothing concrete and discussions are ongoing on how to proceed.
