Police were searching Monday for a group of suspects who allegedly brandished knives, razor blades and guns while stealing e-bikes in a string of incidents across Harlem last month.
According to NYPD officials, at least three men were involved in nine robberies that followed a similar pattern: The suspects would approach male victims — many of them delivery workers — flash a weapon and proceed to steal their e-bikes, bags, cell phones and cash.
The incidents were reported from Feb. 19 to Feb. 29, with all occurring between 5 p.m. and midnight, police said. Some happened within blocks of Central Park’s northern edge on 110th Street, while others were clustered around West 125th Street. The northernmost robbery was reported at West 141st Street and Malcolm X Boulevard.
One of the victims, a 41-year-old man, was seriously injured when a suspect allegedly stabbed him in the back while trying to steal his cell phone on Feb. 29. Officials said the man had been making a delivery on West 131st Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard. First responders took him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in stable condition. All the other victims were in their 20s or 30s, according to police.
None of the suspects has been identified, but the NYPD released photos of them wearing black puffer jackets with hoodies underneath. Police asked anyone with information to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
