Trader Joe's offers more than just groceries in its stores, including its popular scented candles that rotate throughout the year — but one of them is being recalled after an alarming number of fire-related incidents nationwide.
Trader Joe's is recalling approximately 653,000 Mango Tangerine Scented Candles nationwide, according to a notice issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission on August 15. This comes after the company received 14 reports of the candles creating large flames, three of which caused some property damage and two of which caused minor burns.
“The candle flame may spread from the wick to the candle, creating a larger than expected flame and creating a fire hazard,” the CPSC statement said.
The latest warning comes after Trader Joe's first recalled the seasonal candle in June, but didn't say if there were any reports of fires or injuries. But you won't waste your money by throwing the candle away; you can return it to any Trader Joe's store for a full refund or get a $4 Trader Joe's gift card in the mail by filling out an online form.
This isn’t the only recall to hit Trader Joe’s shelves this year. The company recalled its cashews in March after the presence of salmonella was discovered during routine testing.
