Queen Guitarist Brian May Suffers Stroke

Legendary Queen guitarist Sir Brian May recently suffered a minor stroke that left him temporarily without the use of his left arm. But, albeit under strict medical advice, it appears the 77-year-old is on the mend.

May updated her fans on the news in a video message posted to her website on Wednesday, September 4, but she started her message with some good news.

“The good news is that after the events of the last few days, I can play the guitar, and I say that because that little health issue that I mentioned happened about a week ago, and it was a little suspicious,” he explained. “And they called it a mini-stroke, and all of a sudden, all of a sudden, I couldn't control this arm. So it was a little scary.”

May said she had received “the most amazing care and attention” at Frimley Hospital in Surrey, just outside London, and that seeing the blue lights flash was very exciting. She said she hadn't said anything yet because she didn't want sympathy. “Please don't do that because it will clutter my Inbox and I hate that,” she joked.

“So, the good news is I'm fine. I'm just doing what I'm told, which is basically nothing,” he continued. “I'm grounded, I'm not allowed to go out — I mean, I'm not allowed to drive, I'm not allowed to get on planes, I'm not allowed to get my heart rate up too high… But I'm fine.”

May concluded her message with a few words about the BBC One documentary: Brian May: Badgers, Farmers and Meabout her decade-long campaign to stop badger shooting in the UK to prevent the spread of tuberculosis in cattle. A passionate animal rights activist, May raises awareness of fox hunting and badger shooting through the animal welfare organisation Save Me, named after the 1980 hit Queen song.

“We’ve had a great response from farmers in particular – and wildlife people, of course, because we’re still in that corner, but the documentary was really about farmers,” he added. “It’s no surprise to me that we’ve never had a falling out with farmers. We’ve had a falling out with people who are giving them misinformation.”

Either way, it looks like May's case will fight another day.
