REI is in the midst of a massive Labor Day sale, slashing prices on everything from best-selling sleeping pads and other camping gear to travel accessories and even rain gear just in time for fall. There’s also a ton of footwear on sale, including the increasingly popular Altra, the site’s No. 1 best-selling hiking boot.

Altra’s Lone Peak 8 Trail Running Shoes are currently sitting atop REI’s hottest deals list, selling for $105—25% off the regular $140 price. These shoes have garnered more than 100 five-star ratings from shoppers who say they’re “excellent” at gripping trails, grass, and dirt, whether you’re using them for running or walking. They’re on sale in all six available colors, but the blue and gray are the best, with wide widths ranging from 7 to 14—though they may not last much longer.

Understand

These trail running shoes are unlike most others because they replace their traditional knitted mesh uppers with a more durable ripstop mesh that’s more durable, quick-drying, and much easier to clean. That means you don’t have to worry about getting them dirty in mud and dirt. These shoes also have a secret: they have a 0mm drop in them, meaning they support your natural running or walking stride without the added heel-to-toe drop found in most other styles. But that doesn’t mean there’s no cushioning; both the insoles and midsoles offer plenty of shock absorption, and when combined with the grippy outsoles, even sharp rocks won’t slow you down.

Shoppers who have been touting Altra’s Lone Peak 8s say they’re super comfortable, even for those who need a wide fit. “I have very wide and very big feet,” one shopper began. “The wide toe box provides exceptional comfort without causing toe chafing or callouses… I’ll be wearing the shoes for about 3 months or 300 miles, whichever comes first. They wear exceptionally well. I’ve tried a bunch of shoes; these are much better than Hoka, Brooks, and other wide shoes with maximum cushioning.”

If you want to hit the trail comfortably and have your feet underfoot, Altra's Lone Peak 8 is worth a try, especially while they're on sale at REI. Be sure to grab yourself a pair before September 2, when the retailer's Labor Day sale ends.
