Roblox is updating its marketplace to allow creators to grow their businesses on the UGC platform.
The upcoming changes will allow creators to sell avatar packs, which consist of bodies, clothing, and accessories, both in the Marketplace and within the experiences themselves. Roblox said the change is a “big step forward for creators” and will debut in the “coming months.”
Currently, you can only list and sell individual items in Marketplace and Experiences, but Roblox says the addition of bundles will make the buying and selling experience more “convenient.”
“Selling avatars and items in bundles is much more convenient for people, as they can purchase complete looks all at once instead of in pieces. We recently launched a new way to search for avatar bundles and have already seen a positive increase in people purchasing complete looks, rather than individual accessories,” the company added.
“For creators and brands alike, this means new ways to showcase their full creative vision, build connections with their audiences, and grow their revenue.”
The Roblox Marketplace Continues to Expand
This is the latest in a series of Marketplace changes Roblox has rolled out in 2024. In April, the platform opened up Marketplace creation to more users to create a more “personal, dynamic, and accessible” storefront.
Since then, Roblox’s creator community has created 22 percent more 3D avatar objects, and more than 4,800 new creators have joined the group. These newcomers accounted for 35 percent of total creator earnings as of June 2024.
In April, Roblox also introduced new “economic levers” in the form of dynamic minimum prices and editorial previewsIt says such features have had a positive impact, with the number of creators earning 50,000 Robux per month increasing 85 percent year-over-year as of June 2024.
“Total monthly creator earnings increased 61 percent year over year. In the past year alone, more than 7,500 of the 5.5 million U.S. creators monetizing on Roblox earned more than $650,” the company added.
“And it’s not just new creators who are benefiting: our existing creator community, the original members of our UGC program, have seen their overall earnings growth accelerate from 30 percent year-over-year in March to 50 percent in June.”
That sense of positivity hasn't yet permeated every aspect of the platform. Earlier this year, the Turkish government bans Roblox and questioned its approach to child protection. Roblox's own employees echoed these concerns in Julywith Bloomberg Reports that many staff members fear the company is not doing enough to address predatory behavior, often targeting minors.
The platform has also been criticized for employing a business model that some argue exploits and undercompensates young people developers. Studio manager Stefano Corazza recently rejected such claimsand claimed that Roblox actually allows creators to become “professionals.”
