Salt Life Will Liquidate Its Retail Stores Amid Bankruptcy

Lifestyle brand Salt Life announced earlier this week that it plans to close all of its physical stores, a decision that surprised many. New York Post reported.

Hilco Consumer-Retail Group, one of the owners of Salt Life, announced Tuesday that the leisure and adventure clothing brand plans to close each of its 28 stores. Salt Life is currently in the process of liquidating in-store merchandise, fixtures and displays. New ownership stepped in to restructure the company and chart a promising path forward focused on e-commerce and wholesale. The announcement comes after Salt Life's previous owner filed for bankruptcy in June.

Salt Life was founded in 2003 by “four watermen” in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. The company produced clothing and accessories, as well as performance equipment, sunglasses, and the ubiquitous stickers. The brand eventually evolved into Salt Life Food Shack, a successful restaurant chain; this restaurant is dedicated to “tropical-inspired food and drinks” and has three locations in Florida.
