Search on for suspect in first NYC homicide of 2024, a Queens stabbing

Police Tuesday were investigating the first murder of 2024: a stabbing in Queens that left a 29-year-old man dead and a 30-year-old man in critical condition.

According to the NYPD, the two victims were attacked just before 4 a.m. Monday, in the vicinity of Roosevelt Avenue and 76th Street in Jackson Heights.

The 30-year-old man was stabbed in the chest and face, and was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals Elmhurst in critical condition. The 29-year-old man, identified by police as Tsering Wangdu, was stabbed in the leg and pronounced dead at the same hospital.

The relationship between the two victims was not immediately clear, police said.

Police had no information about the suspect, and no arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning.

Major crimes like murders, rapes and shootings all declined meaningfully across new York City in 2023, according to data released by the NYPD.

Police department data shows that there were three murders in the 110 precinct– where Monday’s stabbing occurred– from Jan. 1 through Dec. 24 of 2023.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
