Alien 3 star Sigourney Weaver candidly reflects on the 1992 film and studio interference throughout production. Directed by David Fincher, the third installment is a hit Alien The franchise features Weaver's Ripley crash-landing in a dangerous prison colony and unknowingly bringing the Xenomorph with him. Alien 3 earned mixed reviews and was a notoriously difficult production for Fincher, who has since abandoned the film.
In a recent interview DeadlineWeaver reflects on his experience Alien 3He lamented that Fincher did not have strong creative control over the film. According to the actor, he sees this experience as part of a larger shift in Hollywood towards extreme commercialism, but he still believes that, in general, the third installment “good movie.” See Weaver's comment below:
Well, I could feel it
David had to be on the phone and fight every day so we could shoot what he wanted the next day
. I'm sorry he didn't get a chance to make the script his own before we started. This makes filming very difficult.I remember Vincent Ward's original script was about monks in a monastery and Ripley was in a coma for half of it. So I really felt the lack of studio support. It was a transitional moment when studios stopped being about “let's make great movies” and started being about “let's not lose money.”
It was a great idea to get David Fincher on board for his first film, but then it was stupid not to support the guy. It helped that we were filming in England so we could keep up with things a bit. I recently heard that David has backed out of the project and I'm sorry for that because I loved working with him and I think we made a good film. I'm glad he got a chance to do his own version. It was a great ensemble.
