Spirit Airlines Cuts Two Dozen Routes in Major Shock

Spirit Airlines is making another change to its operations, canceling 24 flights from major airports across America. The airline confirmed the change in a statement. Score Man. This latest announcement comes after Spirit announced the cancellation of 32 routes last month.

Major hubs such as Charlotte Douglas International, Dallas-Fort Worth, Fort Lauderdale and Los Angeles LAX will be hardest hit. At least three Spirit routes will be cut at each of these locations. Spirit is discontinuing service from Charlotte to Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and Los Angeles. This means there will now be less competition in these markets and major airlines may increase ticket prices. For example, American Airlines is now the only airline offering direct flights from Charlotte to Los Angeles.

Spirit also cut the Boston-Newark route; It's a particularly interesting move considering the airline relaunched it in May. Spirit had two flights per day on this trip, but the airline faced significant competition from Delta and United, which, in addition to frequent Amtrak service, offered far more options on a given day.

Spirit has already updated its itineraries. The airline assured customers that anyone who purchased a ticket for one of the canceled flights would be refunded in full or redirected to another Spirit flight.

In good news for travelers, Spirit is adding seven limited-time routes for the Mardi Gras season in February. The airline will begin flights from New Orleans to Columbus; Indianapolis, Memphis and San Antonio start on February 25.
