Have you ever felt trapped between the slowly closing walls of a trash compactor? Four new miniatures for Star Wars: Shatterpoint sure do: The core cast of A New Hope is coming to the miniature skirmish wargame as a four-figure squad next month, according to publisher Atomic Mass Games.
Princess Leia Organa guides Chewbacca and Han and Luke, disguised as stormtroopers, through the bowels of the Death Star in the opening episode of the Star Wars franchise. Sculptors at Atomic Mass Games have recreated that scene in plastic and resin with the This is Some Rescue Squad pack, which hits stores June 3.
Shatterpoint’s take on wargaming limits squad sizes to a handful of miniatures rather than the massive armies that other titles, such as Warhammer 40K and Age of Sigmar, typically feature between just two opponents. The game launched in late 2022 with a focus on the prequel film trilogy and the Clone Wars animated series, meaning most of its characters predate Luke and Leia’s generation.

That appears to be changing with this new pack, which opens the door to a wealth of other characters from the original trilogy (and perhaps the more recent, polarizing trio of films, too). Two other new packs feature the crew of the Ghost from Star Wars: Rebels, the animated series that ended in 2018 and followed a ragtag group of resistance fighters through the time span between episodes 3 and 4.
Atomic Mass Games is responsible for three other Star Wars-themed board games – X-Wings, Armada, and Legion – but Shatterpoint’s lower demands on players’ time and money have helped it gain a respectable audience. They know how to handle this license, and have plenty of experience designing smaller wargames – Marvel: Crisis Protocol remains a popular title in the hobby shop leagues thanks to its comic book appeal and tight gameplay design.
