Valve has released a new update for Steam which increases the size requirements for banner images. The changes were made to help developers “showcase their game in the best light,” especially on high-resolution monitors and OLED Steam Decks.
OLED was also mentioned as the first element where the new dimensions would be most evident, as the smaller dimensions would stand out on the updated portable device.
With the new model, assets for the Steam store (small capsules, headers, main and verticals) and the library (headers) will double in size. The new use of high-resolution assets will be implemented in the coming months, while the previous sizes will no longer be supported on November 1st.
Until that date, Valve will accept asset uploads at the previous size to avoid “disruption to developers engaged in the creation and distribution of games.”
For previous releases, developers are not required to update their graphics assets to the new sizes. Previous capsules will continue to be supported after November 1st.
Valve has already released the latest asset models, along with a detailed overview of the new specifications.
