Valve has reworked Steam's visual editor so developers can edit and update their store pages in real time.
The new “What You See Is What You Get” (WYSIWYG) editor provides a real-time preview of the “About the Game” section, allowing users to see how text, images, and other formatting options appear on the page without having to resort to “beta” previews (although that is still a valid option).
Valve has also made it easier to paste content into the new editor from Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and other writing tools without having to reformat, but with a few caveats.
“You can easily paste content into the new editor and retain all supported formatting: bullets, headings, italics, and more.” read a Steamworks blog.
“Note that there are some limitations to how Steam can interact with the Windows clipboard. Copying a mix of images and text from web sources (web-based Word documents or Google Docs) should work fine, but other sources will not always be able to retain the images. Copying and pasting an image individually seems to work fine.”
Now you can also drag and drop images directly into the visual editor. As mentioned above, they can also be pasted from a Word document.
“Each uploaded image will also be saved in the 'Custom Images' section, which has also received an update to more clearly present the uploaded images. And of course you can continue to work the way you did before by specifically selecting and uploading files in the 'Upload Custom Images' section and then including them in your description,” the blog continues.
To replace images, simply press the “edit” icon in the corner of any image already in the editor and choose a different file. Other useful WYSIWYG additions include spell checking, keyboard shortcuts, undo/redo buttons, and automatic formatting.
The editor can also be used to edit the “Rewards” and “Special Announcements” sections. Valve noted that anyone who prefers to use the bbcode editor can switch between the new editor and the old one, but said the switch “won't be pretty.”
