Taco Bell Brings Back Beloved Menu Item After Five Years

Taco Bell fans rejoice because the chain is bringing back the fan-favorite product that was discontinued in 2019. The chain will be offering the beloved Double Decker Taco nationwide for a limited time starting Thursday, October 10th. But fans will have to act fast because this flavor is only available until the end of the month.

The Double Decker Taco was first introduced in 1995 and became a permanent menu item in 2009. But in 2019, Taco Bell canceled it along with several other staples, including the Power Menu Burrito and the XXL Grilled Stuft Burrito. It was briefly revived in December 2023, but also only for a limited time.

The concept of Double Decker Taco is pretty simple; combines two tacos into one menu item. It features a hard-shell taco wrapped in a soft flour tortilla, with an interior containing beef, lettuce, and shredded cheese. Refried beans are sandwiched in between to bring the two together. A superior version of the Double Decker Taco also includes tomatoes and sour cream inside the hard taco.

To celebrate the return of the Double Decker Taco, the chain is also offering it at a discount. Until October 30, it will only be $2 for the regular version and $2.69 for the upgrade; when last available they were $2.99 and $3.69 respectively.

Coincidentally, the Double Decker Taco is returning to the menu just as Taco Bell is testing a new “Nostalgic Menu” to bring back items that have been discontinued for decades. The menu, which currently includes the Tostada, Green Burrito, Meximelt, Gordita, and Caramel Apple Empanada, is only available at select locations in Southern California, but is expected to arrive nationwide by the end of the year.
