Take-Two has sold its Private Division publishing label to an unnamed buyer.
The Grand Theft Auto maker described the move as a “strategic decision” that will allow it to focus its resources on growing its core and mobile businesses in the long term.
“As part of this transaction, the acquirer has acquired our rights to substantially all of Private Division's live and unreleased titles. Take-Two will continue to support No Rest for the Wicked, which launches in Early Access on PC in April,” he said. explained Take- Two presidents Karl Slatoff in the company latest tax report.
“We are grateful for the contributions the Private Division team has made to our company and are confident they will continue to be successful in their new home.”
Private Division has worked on major titles such as The external worlds, Kerbal Space 2 program, The world of Olli Olli, RollerdromeAND Hades. Tales of the Shire is currently the publisher's only (announced) upcoming title. It is unclear whether the sale will impact the project, which is scheduled to launch in March 2025.
It was reported earlier this year that Take-Two planned to do so stop The world of Olli Olli Roll7 developer AND conduct widespread layoffs a Kerbal Space 2 program developer Intercept Games. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick rejected those reports and said the company “did not shut down those studios.”
In response, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier shared an email received from Roll7 employees who claimed that Take-Two was “proposing to shut down” the British developer.
IGN also reported it The Private Division would be sold or closed. Take-Two has opted for the first option, but it remains to be seen who will take control of the label and what it will look like when it re-emerges.
Take-Two was accused of mismanagement of Private Division by several anonymous sources who spoke to IGN, who said the publisher had been forced to release subpar titles and pursue unrealistic sales goals.
