Talisker has announced its latest limited edition range of 30-year-old Scotch whisky.
The whisky brand first released its limited-edition 30-year-old single malt as part of a special collection in 2006. Since then, the distillery has become a household name among Scotch whisky lovers. The Diageo-owned brand deserves its spotlight for continuing the interest in island whiskies, particularly the Isle of Skye, where it is one of two distilleries (along with the excellent but tiny Torabhaig).
Despite being released in 2006, the 30-year-old didn’t become an annual release until 2021. And this year’s edition is even more special than its predecessors, as it’s the rarest of them all. Only 2,610 bottles will be made available, and fewer than 800 of those bottles will be available for purchase in the US.
The whisky has all the hallmarks of a great Talisker: aromas of red apple and stone fruit, combined with hints of wood spice, vanilla, pepper and dark chocolate. The palate offers warm sea smoke, rich walnuts and bonfire embers, with more orchard fruit and toffee. And the finish continues with notes of toffee, sea salt and smoke.
“This new Talisker 30 year old release has all the classic hallmarks of a single malt, but reaches new heights,” says Ewan Gunn, Diageo’s senior ambassador for single malt Scotch whiskies. “Rising with notes of sweet smoke and pepper, this latest release is an elegant and complex expression. A consistently outstanding 30 year old release.”
Those hoping to get their hands on a bottle of the 2024 Talisker 30 Year Old will need to act fast, as only 741 bottles will cross the Atlantic and reach U.S. shelves. Also, seekers should be prepared to open their wallets, as bottles cost $1,100—but that’s not bad compared to last winter’s Glacial Edge Aged 45 Years, which sold for $5,000.
