Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has dozens of new weapons for players to master, one of which is the MTZ-556. This weapon is a fast-firing assault rifle that shares some DNA with SMGs. It has quite a bit of recoil, but those who master this weapon can melt targets from quite a distance.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – Best Rival-9 Loadouts
Create an SMG with no recoil with these powerful Rival-9 builds.
But to make the most of the MTZ’s fast fire rate, you’ll want a build that can handle its recoil. This guide will showcase two builds for the MTZ-556 that make it a solid assault rifle, ranging from a powerful mid-range accuracy build to a close-quarters tactical stance configuration.

The MTZ-556 is a solid AR/SMG hybrid if you can control the weapon’s moderate recoil. The easiest to do this is with the MTZ Marauder Stock which offers a massive reduction in gun kick. The SL Skeletal Vertical Grip then reduces the weapon’s vertical recoil. Use a 50 Round Drum to make multikills easier to perform, then throw on your favorite optic. The MTZ VLDL-3568 Barrel is also great for removing the speed penalties imposed by the drum magazine.
If you want to use the MTZ-556 in a stealth build, simply replace the optic with a suppressor of your choice. The Shadowstrike Suppressor is ideal since it has no drawbacks.
This attachment configuration will greatly reduce the MTZ-556’s recoil while increasing your magazine capacity. A sprint to fire delay of 175ms is solid for an AR in mid-range duels, although you’ll want to be cautious about tactical sprinting into a close-range duel. Paired with the solid 214ms ADS speed, this weapon should feel great in virtually any situation.

As a mid-range dueling weapon, you’ll want to enhance your flinch resistance and strafe speed to gain an edge. The Infantry Vest is a great option for any build, doubling your tactical sprint duration while granting three perk slots. We use Marksman Gloves to reduce incoming flinch, Stalker Boots to more easily strafe in and out of cover, and Mag Holster to speed up the weapon’s fairly long reload time.
Since you aren’t using Covert Sneakers or Ghost with this setup, avoid fighting in close quarters unless you swap to a secondary like the Renetti. If you need to get up close and personal, you can activate Dead Silence to temporarily gain the effects of Covert Sneakers and Dead Silence. Throwing Knives can save your life in a pinch, and Stims are great for quickly recovering your HP after a tough gunfight.

If you want to use the MTZ-556 in close-range combat, a tactical stance build is ideal. You have plenty of attachment options for accomplishing this, notably the MTZ Natter Heavy Short Barrel which reduces your tac stance spread by a whopping 39 percent. The STOVL DR Laser Box and Bruen Tactical Vertical Grip will reduce it even further, lowering it to 0.9 degrees.
Firing the weapon as-is will incur quite a bit of recoil, so we’ve opted to use the MTZ Marauder Stock to greatly reduce the weapon’s recoil. Throw on any type of suppressor to complete the build. The end result is a solid SMG/AR hybrid that can clear rooms and other enclosed spaces with ease, although it will struggle to duel at longer distances.

This loadout uses stealth perks to keep you off the radar as much as possible. The Engineer Vest offers a second Tactical use and another gear perk. We run Covert Sneakers and Ghost to muffle our footsteps and hide from the minimap while moving, respectively. Assault Gloves allow you to jumpshot with this weapon with ease, and Mag Hoslter makes reloading take far less time.
For your equipment, our only hard recommendation is to run Stims. You get two per life, so healing after a gunfight shouldn’t be much of an issue. Your secondary and Field Upgrade are down to preference.
