The classic 1980s board game Tales of the Arabian Nights is getting a sequel set in the time of King Arthur

An upcoming board game based on the 1980s classic Tales of the Arabian Nights brings that title’s adventure structure to a time of round tables and legendary kings. Tales of the Arthurian Knights is a standalone sequel set to release in late 2024 that lets players create their own legends, whether noble or notorious.

Players can navigate mythical Britain competitively or cooperatively using the Book of Cards and its accompanying cards. As in Tales of the Arabian Nights, each card corresponds to an entry in the book, describing encounters, enemies, treasures, and wondrous places that players can interact with through a variety of strategies.

Once you're done, the letter will send you in a different direction, sometimes unlocking unique narrative forks based on player actions. Skills honed through adventure and legendary gear found, such as Goswhit or Prydwen, will help you overcome challenges in a variety of ways, whether through diplomacy with the fae or unsheathed steel against bandits.

Designed by Andrew Parks and based on Eric Goldberg's original system, Tales of the Arthurian Knights will not hesitate to force players to live with the consequences of their actions. Your behavior could create an eternal legend from your noble deeds or leave your name engraved in the fearful hearts of every peasant from Cornwall to Scotland.

The Storybook contains over 350 pages and 200 standard cards, each of which can be modified with general cards, such as “Lost” or “Enchanted,” to further expand on more general encounters. Also included in the core set are knight figures, a full rulebook, and over 350 tokens used to track all manner of currency, afflictions, forces, and other resources. The board itself covers the United Kingdom, Ireland, Northern France, and Brittany (which is now part of modern France).

A full campaign will span Camelot’s golden age, encompass the quest for the Holy Grail, and descend into Britain’s Final Wars as broad footholds, but character-controlled knights don’t necessarily have to appear on the front lines, or even support Arthur’s vision for Britain. The effects of these mythic and historical events will play out in the background as you pursue imprisoned maidens in castles, hunt strange beasts across the countryside, or actively plot against Camelot’s rule.

According to publisher WizKids, Tales of the Arthurian Knights games are now available for pre-order ahead of its Q4 2024 release. Everything needed for up to eight players will come in a single box that should ship shortly after its release date. Cover artwork and components were provided by DavidSchneiderArt, Medusa Dollmaker, and Mirco Paganessi.
