Is Matt Damon and Casey Affleck's 'Instigators' worth seeing in theaters or waiting for release?

Matt Damon and Casey Affleck reunite on screen for the first time in 17 years in the buddy heist comedy The Instigators, about two thieves on the run after a botched heist. Although produced by Apple Studios, it will be released in theaters this week ahead of Apple TV+ on August 9, begging the question of whether it's worth seeing in theaters or waiting for broadcast. While critics panned the film, Doug Liman delivers some impressively thrilling set pieces, and Damon and Affleck make a great pair worth watching on the big screen.

Rory & Cobby's Original Heist Plan & How It Went Wrong Explained

Rory and Cobby can't foresee what they're about to walk into

As Mr. Besegai initially explained to Rory, Cobby, and Scavalvo, he expects them to loot Mayor Mixelli's campaign funds right before he gets re-elected. Besegai reveals that the money will be kept in a warehouse at The Wharf, where the Mayor's re-election party will be held. All they have to do is enter the building, empty the vault before moving the money elsewhere, and flee the scene without leaving any evidence of the robbery.

Both agree to participate in the robbery, but Rory is asking for exactly $32,480 because that is the amount she will need to pay off her debts and support her estranged son.. Unfortunately, when it comes to carrying out his plans, things go awry. When they enter The Wharf from their kitchen, they discover that there are far more staff than expected. They also learn that Miccelli has not been re-elected and that his safe has been emptied twice before they arrive. This leaves the vault almost empty when they arrive at the location to rob it.

Things get even more chaotic when Salvo impulsively deviates from the plan and tries to rob the ex-mayor and his associates. This leads to a shootout, with Salvo dead and Rory and Cobby forced to flee with Miccelli and his associates' belongings. Little do they realize that the bracelet they stole from Miccelli contains the code to unlock his safe with his money and proof of all the corrupt methods he used to acquire his wealth.
