The Final Fantasy XIV tabletop role-playing game, based on the long-running video game series' critically acclaimed (and critically acclaimed) MMO, has yet to be released after being revealed last fall. Still, it's already proven popular enough that Final Fantasy creator Square Enix is planning a second edition of the tabletop RPG later this year.
Last September, the Final Fantasy XIV tabletop RPG was announced, the first official adaptation of the franchise into a pen-and-paper RPG (there have been several Final Fantasy tabletop games, as well as a collectible card game, and countless unofficial fan-made and tribute games, of course).

The TRPG based on A Realm Reborn (the successful 2013 reboot of Final Fantasy XIV following the failure of the original FF14 in 2010) has been written with input from the game’s development team, tying together various locations, characters and events from the MMO. The three adventures included in the starter set intertwine with FF14’s own story, which will continue with the new Dawntrail expansion this summer, and will allow players to enter as a pre-made Warrior, White Mage, Dragon or Black Mage, or create their own character from scratch.
Since the Final Fantasy XIV TTRPG hasn't been released yet (it's due out later this month), it's still unclear how the tabletop RPG's gameplay works and whether it's built on an existing system like Dungeons & Dragons 5E or on an original ruleset.
That hasn't deterred fans from shelling out their cash for the £50.99/$59.99 Starter Pack, though, as Square Enix has Recently confirmed that its first batch had completely sold out. That first edition will arrive in May as planned, and now it has been announced that the second edition will be published later this year, so if you missed it the first time around, now is your (second) chance.
