The Last Of Us Season 2 Set To Wrap Filming September 2024

The Last of Us Season 2 has seemingly pushed back its filming dates, as it’s now expected to finish shooting on September 9, 2024. Multiple online listings for the show now say that filming is scheduled to start in February, as opposed to the originally announced January date.

The delay hasn’t been officially confirmed, but it can be found online when looking up the show’s code name “Mega Sword”. Most notably, a list of productions from the Director’s Guild of Canada lists Mega Sword Season 2, or The Last of Us Season 2, shooting between February 20 and September 9. With this in mind, we probably shouldn’t expect a 2024 premiere date, as the next season is very likely to be a 2025 release.

As pointed out by maxblizz.com, the Canadian director’s guild recently updated this listing, and it goes against the dates we were given earlier this month. Some theorise that this delay is proof that The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal has accepted the role of Reed Richards in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since this could complicate his schedule.

That being said, and spoiler alert from The Last of Us Season 2 here, but… I don’t think Joel will stick around all that much. Hell, as soon as his scenes for the first episode have been filmed, Pascal might find himself with a very easy schedule indeed. Bella Ramsey not so much – it will be very demanding for the actor both physically and emotionally, even more so than what was thrown at them in the first season.

It’s not totally clear if the next season will follow the events of The Last of Us Part 2 so religiously. We already know that the show is set to continue after Season 2, even though many of us would have assumed that it would have run out of source material by then. It could be that one season isn’t enough to cover the second game, or alternatively, that we’ll get more of Ellie and Joel before the big time skip into the events of Part 2. There’s a few years to cover there, after all, and the first season wasn’t afraid to fill in the gaps that were left unexplored in the game. It’s how we got that third episode centred around Bill and Frank, after all.

Still, with multiple listings now putting The Last of Us Season 2’s filming in February, it will probably be some time until we’re watching it ourselves. In the meantime, the second game is getting a re-release, less than four years since it first dropped on PS4. It’s set to release on January 19, 2024, exclusively for PS5.
