One might think that some things don't warrant a warning, like not storing a loaded gun in the oven. But a Virginia fire and emergency medical services department had to do exactly that when chaos broke out when a homeowner did exactly that.
“PLEASE DO NOT STORE WEAPONS OR ANYTHING ELSE IN YOUR OVEN,” Chesterfield County Fire and Emergency Medical Services wrote in all-caps on Facebook on Sept. 6 following the dangerous incident.
Two photos accompanying the post show a gun melted into an oven rack and the oven's glass door shattered. “While this is an extreme example, these photos show that you should never store anything in your oven,” the post continued.
As explained in the post, firefighters were called to a home fire in Chesterfield, VA, where the homeowner claimed the oven had “exploded.” When personnel on the scene opened the oven, they found a gun inside. Someone in the home had unknowingly opened the oven while the gun was inside, and once it was hot enough, the gun fired five shots.
“Thank God no one was injured, but the situation could have been much different,” the post said.
“When you put anything in the oven, it's easy to forget it's there and that can lead to a fire or worse when you open the oven,” the post continued, noting that firearms should always be properly stored in a safe place, such as a gun safe.
According to the online Texas LTC firearms training course, New York PostThe bullets must reach about 400 degrees before they will spontaneously explode. Of course, this is an extreme example of why guns should not be stored carelessly.
The homeowner had a lucky escape, only having to replace the furnace and suffering no horrific injuries or loss of life.
