The new Pokémon TCG trademarks suggest a return to Black-White

Pokémon Trading Card Game is set to make a comeback if some new trademarks are to be believed. When it comes to its ever-popular board game, The Pokémon Company usually creates a decent amount of brand synergy by synchronizing set releases with recently launched video games, new seasons of anime, or cartoons. With that in mind, it's certainly odd that the publisher is looking back at one of the franchise's most beloved chapters rather than gearing up for a future release.

This was reported by journalist and insider Joe Merrick at X (formerly Twitter). The Pokémon Company recently filed trademarks for two products: Black Volt and White Flare.

They both came out with another trademark for something called “Hot Air Arena” which is probably different Trading Card Game set although the name does not follow the usual trend. The discovery set the public ablaze as fans speculated the titles may be a reference to two Legendary Pokemon, Zekrom and Reshiram Pokémon Black and White.

What Could Black Volt and White Flare Be?

Don't Get Those Hopes Too High

Following the conclusion that Black Volt and White Flare could be referring to Zekrom and Reshiram, fans have been flooded with such theories. Game Freak is finally working on their long-awaited remake Black and White. There is no evidence to support this, as even Merrick threw water on the fire by stating that if the trademarks were for games, they would contain the word “.Pokemon.” Even if it's for trademarks Trading Card Gameit's odd that one set is seemingly the focus Black and White time is at work Red and Violet are the latest games.

Having said that, the original release date Black and White may be the answer to the puzzle. Both games were released in September 2010, meaning they will celebrate their 15th anniversary in 2025. Since The Pokémon Company tends to trademark collectibles six months and a year before debut, it's gearing up for a holiday set dedicated to video games.

Whether this is the case remains to be seen; A holiday collection wouldn't be out of the question, especially if it's a smaller set dedicated to spotlighting Gen 5's most popular Pokemon like Zekrom and Reshiram. Pokémon Trading Card Gamee is always looking to the future, but it can also be fun to look back.
